Congratulations to our Northside YoungStars!

Fifty extra YoungStars were crowned at the YoungStar Gala Awards held this weekend at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

The once a year event celebrates the achievements of those aged eight to eighteen in Arts/Education, Community Involvement and Sport, with winners being select starting all of 15 Quest Community Newspaper regions (known as ‘paper titles') as water supply as overall winners.

Almost 600 guests gathered to celebrate 276 finalists for this year, with YoungStar Awards open to 45 paper title winners and 8 overall winners in four categories.


Overall winners:

  • Arts/Education -  Brandon Binnie
  • Community - Matthew Groves
  • Sport - Yolane Kukla
  • Group -  Sibling band Freak Morice (Kahlia, Daniel, Joel, Nathan and Shani Ferguson).

Congratulations to these YoungStars, for unification the honours board, and earning their place alongside names counting Olympic gold medallist Stephanie Rice, So You Think You Can Dance winner Talia Fowler, and Yassmin Abdel-Magied, the 2010 Young Queenslander of the Year.
